Flip Ultra and Windows Movie Maker

Many of our teachers now have Flip Ultra Video Cameras. Often the included Flip Share software provides the needed editing options, but sometimes teachers or students want more. Windows Movie Maker in Windows XP, the next logical free option, doesn’t support the mp4 file format of the videos from the new Flip Ultra.  I’ve  tried converting the mp4 file to an avi file to able to edit it with our current Windows Movie Maker version, but wasn’t happy with the downgraded quality of the video. As an alternative, I would recommend the free Video Pad Video Editor. Easy to use with some features not included in WMM.

Windows Movie Maker in Vista does support MP4 files. Therefore, as our stations are replaced with those running Windows 7 the issue will be resolved.
